Alzheimer’s disease is a gradually progressive neurologic disorder that impacts memory and thinking skills until an individual can no longer complete basic daily tasks independently. It is caused by changes to the brain and most commonly affects those over age 65.

Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and becomes fatal when a person can no longer perform normal body functions such as chewing and swallowing food.
